Collage
A collage project stemming from a great attraction to the punk DIY zines of the 1980s. Specifically, punk graphic designer Mark Perry’s music fanzine, Sniffin Glue, has been an inspiration to the end work through a copy-and-paste approach. With this zine's handwritten title in thick black marker pen, the inaugural edition (with a print run of 50) led to thirteen further issues and would become a defining recorder of the punk DIY scene. Through an original and organic aesthetic consisting of photocopied images, mistakes and doodles, Sniffin’ Glue emerged as an immediate mouthpiece for this nascent music scene whilst also kickstarting a new generation of independent publishing names.
A second influence was Margaret Kilgallen. She was also inspired by the punk art movement, and its anti-consumerist, DIY, self-empowered approach. The following collages hope to reflect a style that is simultaneously related whilst separate.
